I wanted to convey clear, general knowledge about the future of Facial Recognition and Driverless Cars in my video. I didn’t want to get too in depth into the nitty gritty details as it was just a 2-3 minute video, and that would be confusing for the viewer. I wanted the videos on the screen to correspond with the narration of my voice so I had to find related footage, record my voice and then edit it so that they both matched up. The goal was for it to be a realistic but positive video, touching on topics like future issues with court cases not knowing who to charge for a completely driverless accident, while still keeping it light and optimistic.
I planned my topics to talk about in dot points initially, working out what I wanted to talk about. I then scoured YouTube (with the Creative Commons filter on) for footage related to these topics. I searched things like “artificial intelligence”, “driverless cars”, “crowd of people walking” and “facial recognition”, and went through all of the videos, trying to quickly establish which videos had useable footage to use with narration, and if they did, I saved the URL for referencing and downloaded the video. I really enjoyed the editing step -as I always enjoy editing videos – I could stay up all night and not get bored. As I previously said, I had to make the source videos and narration make sense together so as I was editing, I recorded the narration topic by topic which worked well. I’ve never used Soundcloud before so that was new for me, but I quickly found some simple tracks to run underneath my voice and the visuals. I wasn’t 100% sure what was meant by ‘overlays’ but I assumed it mean picture in picture, video over another video, so I have included some gamer-like video narration.
I had problems relating to the credits sequence surprisingly, the text was really hard to manage and put where I wanted it and kept changing (I used iMovie on my MacBook Pro). After I had finished the video and just after I’d shown it to my mum, the credits disappeared. So, I had to re-do them which made my feelings towards submitting this assignment turn into dread as I didn’t want to do the whole fiddly process again. But I did J The only other challenge I faced was just sorting through videos on YouTube that had text or graphics on the screen as well as the video, that wouldn’t make sense with my narration, so I couldn’t use them. And of course procrastination played a part, but otherwise I enjoyed this assignment and didn’t come across too many challenges related to the actual task.
